Sudan
In the midst of civil war now for nearly a decade, Sudan has ceased making headlines. The stories are monotonous; whole villages being displaced, men being butchered, women being raped, their possessions burned, their Fields destroyed, their dignity accosted, and their hope assailed.
What you may not not know about the Sudanese crisis is that it stems religious fervor. When an Islamic goverment took power some years ago, they were determined to make Sudan another Islamic state. The problem is that Sudan is not wholly Islamic; fully a third of the population is Christian, concentrated in the southern third of the country. What began ten yars ago was a systematic extermination and displacement of the Christian presence in the country.
Why is this important to us today? Christians must pray for their Christian brethren around the world facing severe crisis and persecution. We must pray for the persecured Church in Sudan. More than that, we must send help.
Belky is our latest Latin American missionay to be deployed into the Muslim World. She has now left Honduras on her journey halfway across the world. The road is not direct, but leads trough a small city in southern Texas. There in Victoria, Belky will be studying nursing for the next few years. When Belky finishes her nursing degree, she will be deployed to the Sudanese refugee camps in neighboring countries, with God’s help into Sudan itself . She will not only aid to ease the suffering of the persecuted church, but bring the hope of salvation to their Muslim persecutors. Now is the time to begin to pray for Belky. Now is the time to pray for Sudan!
